What is Hip Hop?

The Cassette

When the sound of Hip Hop spread around the nation, it was through the sound of prominent Dj's like Mr. Magic. The cassette represented one of the first tools for distributing black youth culture around the nation, check it out https://goo.gl/wlFgCa.

As you heard Mr. Magic in class via the rap group, Whodini. Hip Hop began moving across the nation and around the world through commercial radio.  It was the beginning of wide spread commercialization.  When you think about Hip Hop and you place it in your own context, when did you have your first experience, and what did you know about black youth culture, and how did you hear about it or experience it?  Has Hip Hop helped or hurt the identity of black youth?  What role can technology play in moving that narrative forward?
